Entry from: El Calafate, Argentina Entry Title: "Patagonia with no expectations (Floss)" Entry: "Before I left to come on this trip, the top things that I wanted to do were: * The Inca Trail * The Amazon * Riding on a ranch & learning how to play polo * Sample local wines What I didn't´know much about or had no expectations for was either the Salt Plains in Bolivia or the scenery in Patagonia. The journey of the latter started in Bariloche, in the heart of the Argentinian Lake District, where we based ourselves for 5 days, as described in a separate entry by Helen. We then flew down to El Calafate to join a group for a 2 week tour. The tour actually started in Buenos Aires (BA as known by the locals), but it didn't´make sense for us to fly there from Bariloche & effectively come back again. Only when we arrived at the airport, we thought we had been forgotten about: we saw the guide waiting at arrivals with his sign, but by the time my bags had shown up, the group & the guide had disappeared. After a few frantic phone calls to the tour´s office we found out that they were coming back for us. Phew! After a short bus transfer, well short in bus terms (3 hours), we arrived in El Chalten, which was to become our home for 3 nights. Nothing like breaking us in gently, our 1st day was a 10 hour hike!
